Introducing Efecto Verde / Efecto Verde is a civic organization working to implement an ambitious plan for the green renewal of Mexico City by 2030.

We began with the challenge of creating green spaces in a city suffering from pollution and a dire heat island effect—and quickly found a way to bring the benefits of green renewal to the world: modular maintenance-free plant containers to cover the concrete rooftops of urban structures.

Our Goal

We aim to demonstrate the success of urban green renewal through the ZMVM project and extend that model to other cities that want to thrive in healthy climates. To do that, we’ve enlisted a coalition of architects, engineers, civic planners, corporations and individual citizens who are committed to our vision of effective environmental change. Our hope is that Efecto Verde’s simple but powerful model of green renewal will soon be replicated across urban landscapes worldwide.

Our Idea

The concept is simple but the results include significant air quality improvements, local economic renewals and the creation of green public and private spaces at low or no cost to the public. Our Fund also makes it possible to implement any technology to decrease the environmental impact of development via significant tax incentives.

Who is Efecto Verde For?

Anyone with a rooftop footprint of any size who wants an easy way to renew the environment and fight climate change—from corporations to small businesses to people in their homes.

He took a Masters degree on Sustainable Urban Planning at University of Ferrara, Italy in 2006-07. In June of 2007 he founded Efecto Verde A.C., based on insights from his thesis of he same name (urban symbiosis: social, economic and ambient regeneration for major cities). Following the Efecto´s Verde strategic plan, he developed a recycled plastic modular green roofing system and created the Efecto Verde Environmental Fund in association with the National Bank of México (FOMENTO ECOLÓGICO BANAMEX) joining civil associations, universities, and the National Commission for Saving Energy (CONAE) as members of the committee that he directs. He has served as an assessor for the panel to develop the green roofing tax saving laws for Mexico City mandated by the secretary of environment (SMA). He proposed the urban symbiosis and strategic plan of Efecto Verde to secretaries of environment of Latin America at forum INCYTAM in Mexico City in 2008. He coordinated the treated water network for Condesa and Roma colonies developed by Fideicomiso Roma-Condesa, where he is collaborator and co-founder. He has hosted conferences about global warming at several Universities and expos (ITESM, UIA, Anahuac, Home & Garden, etc). And in 2008 joined to FabriKG and started to collaborate in CAPA as well as green roofing for Baja Ca. He also has worked as real estate consultant and is responsible for construction and new technologies projects for natural gas enterprises.
